Viscosity

We are excited to announce a new hand-blown art gallery in Downtown Boulder Creek.  Viscosity Studio is owned by Boulder Creek residents Scott Graham & Cristy Aloysi.  They started their glass blowing careers in Brooklyn NY, and have had great success as they have moved west.  Their updated shop is very clean and inviting, and their fantastic designs are wonderfully eye catching.  Yard art, bubble bowls, vases, and paperweights are amazing gifts for anyone.  The owners are also the artists, and are happy to answer questions about the glass blowing process.  They offer glass blowing classes for aspiring artists.  Please check out their gallery, which just opened, at 13158 Central Ave, Boulder Creek.  For more information, please check out their webpage at www.viscositystudio.com.

Bear With Us – Bear Stories of the Santa Cruz Mountains

Exhibition Dates: February 15 – October 18, 2015
Opening Reception: February 15, 2015 2-4pm

In the late 1700s, the San Francisco peninsula was a wilderness, and home to large numbers of grizzlies. The abundance of food was shared between the hierarchy of wildlife and the native peoples; there was plenty for all. In just a few decades, this would change.

Confrontations between man and bear often resulted in death or serious injury. By the late-1800s there were few grizzlies left here and by 1900, grizzlies, once prolific, had been hunted to extinction.

This exhibition tells the stories of bear encounters, both grizzlies and black bears, in the Santa Cruz area from the late 1700s to the present day and reminds us that often our intolerance can lead to an unrecoverable and regrettable loss.

The exhibition includes hands-on activities for young visitors and interactive elements to engage visitors of all ages.

PGE Installation Information

Dear Members & Community,
PGE will start replacing six existing “cobra head” lights on Highway 236. They are scheduled to begin 1/21 and end on 1/28. There are no parking signs posted on Highway 236 stating parking restrictions between the hours of 7am and 5 pm.  The purpose of the installation is to address aged wooden poles that have become hazardous.  The project will also include replacement of similar lights along the HWY 9.  Further, the first phase of new acorn-style lights are scheduled to be installed by the end of February within the downtown corridor.  As we receive updates, we will continue to inform our membership and community members.

Thanks,
Boulder Creek Business Association
