We are excited to announce a new hand-blown art gallery in Downtown Boulder Creek.  Viscosity Studio is owned by Boulder Creek residents Scott Graham & Cristy Aloysi.  They started their glass blowing careers in Brooklyn NY, and have had great success as they have moved west.  Their updated shop is very clean and inviting, and their fantastic designs are wonderfully eye catching.  Yard art, bubble bowls, vases, and paperweights are amazing gifts for anyone.  The owners are also the artists, and are happy to answer questions about the glass blowing process.  They offer glass blowing classes for aspiring artists.  Please check out their gallery, which just opened, at 13158 Central Ave, Boulder Creek.  For more information, please check out their webpage at

Bear With Us – Bear Stories of the Santa Cruz Mountains

Exhibition Dates: February 15 – October 18, 2015
Opening Reception: February 15, 2015 2-4pm

In the late 1700s, the San Francisco peninsula was a wilderness, and home to large numbers of grizzlies. The abundance of food was shared between the hierarchy of wildlife and the native peoples; there was plenty for all. In just a few decades, this would change.

Confrontations between man and bear often resulted in death or serious injury. By the late-1800s there were few grizzlies left here and by 1900, grizzlies, once prolific, had been hunted to extinction.

This exhibition tells the stories of bear encounters, both grizzlies and black bears, in the Santa Cruz area from the late 1700s to the present day and reminds us that often our intolerance can lead to an unrecoverable and regrettable loss.

The exhibition includes hands-on activities for young visitors and interactive elements to engage visitors of all ages.

Cost: Free, Donations Welcome

Santa Cruz County Draft Economic Vitality Strategy

Dear BCBA Members and Members of the Community,

There was an important correspondence from the county soliciting feedback on a report that discusses economic vitality in Santa Cruz County.  This report will influence the time, efforts, and resources allocated from local government to different industries and areas in the entire county.  The report will be a major influence for local government and other agencies actions over the next two years, and also influence the 35 year plan.  Without doubt, this will have impact on our businesses and area.  This report suggests there is a small window of time for the county to revisit the report and make additions/changes.  The BCBA would like to draft a formal letter including the ideas that are presented from our members.  After reading the document, please email all feedback that you would like to share to the BCBA at, or if you prefer, directly to your county supervisor.
Thank you for attention to this important document.  We look forward to your feedback.

Justin Acton

President, Boulder Creek Business Association

Subject: Santa Cruz County Draft Economic Vitality Strategy

Dear Members of the Boulder Creek Business Association:

Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors directed that an Economic Vitality Strategy be developed for the County of Santa Cruz. The process involved preparation of an Economic Trends Report, and six interactive focus group workshops with our economic development partners in the cities and business groups, such as Boulder Creek Business Association. Possible approaches and strategies for addressing our community’s economic opportunities and challenges were then presented at four community workshops as well as an “Open Town Hall” on the County’s website.

The resulting draft strategy is to recognize countywide assets, opportunities and partnerships and to highlight goals, strategies and actions that County governmental agencies can pursue to complement and strengthen the economic development efforts of existing businesses, agencies and organizations.

Your feedback and ideas and important.  The attached draft of the study  being circulated for review and comment until July 7.  Comments should be submitted to the Planning Director, either by postal service at 701 Ocean Street, 4th Floor, Santa Cruz CA 95060 or by email to  I am interested in receiving a cc of your email comments as well

Your organization may also be interested in a presentation on the Economic Vitality Strategy by County Economic Vitality Staff. If so,, please contact my office or Economic Development Coordinator Barbara Mason at

The Economic Vitality Strategy is scheduled to return for the Board of Supervisor’s consideration and discussion in August.
