Dear BCBA Members and Members of the Community,
There was an important correspondence from the county soliciting feedback on a report that discusses economic vitality in Santa Cruz County. This report will influence the time, efforts, and resources allocated from local government to different industries and areas in the entire county. The report will be a major influence for local government and other agencies actions over the next two years, and also influence the 35 year plan. Without doubt, this will have impact on our businesses and area. This report suggests there is a small window of time for the county to revisit the report and make additions/changes. The BCBA would like to draft a formal letter including the ideas that are presented from our members. After reading the document, please email all feedback that you would like to share to the BCBA at
info@bcba.net, or if you prefer, directly to your county supervisor.
Thank you for attention to this important document. We look forward to your feedback.

Subject: Santa Cruz County Draft Economic Vitality Strategy
Dear Members of the Boulder Creek Business Association:
Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors directed that an Economic Vitality Strategy be developed for the County of Santa Cruz. The process involved preparation of an Economic Trends Report, and six interactive focus group workshops with our economic development partners in the cities and business groups, such as Boulder Creek Business Association. Possible approaches and strategies for addressing our community’s economic opportunities and challenges were then presented at four community workshops as well as an “Open Town Hall” on the County’s website.
The resulting draft strategy is to recognize countywide assets, opportunities and partnerships and to highlight goals, strategies and actions that County governmental agencies can pursue to complement and strengthen the economic development efforts of existing businesses, agencies and organizations.
Your feedback and ideas and important. The attached draft of the study being circulated for review and comment until July 7. Comments should be submitted to the Planning Director, either by postal service at 701 Ocean Street, 4th Floor, Santa Cruz CA 95060 or by email to PLN001@santacruzcounty.us. I am interested in receiving a cc of your email comments as well bruce.mcpherson@santacruzcounty.us.
Your organization may also be interested in a presentation on the Economic Vitality Strategy by County Economic Vitality Staff. If so,, please contact my office or Economic Development Coordinator Barbara Mason at Barbara.Mason@santacruzcounty.us.
The Economic Vitality Strategy is scheduled to return for the Board of Supervisor’s consideration and discussion in August.
